QFC and Ministry of Justice Take Part in International Conference of Legal Regulators

Representatives from the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority and the Ministry of Justice participated in the 6th Annual International Conference of Legal Regulators (ICLR) held in Singapore.

Co-organised by the Singapore Ministry of Law and the Law Society of Singapore, legal professionals and leaders in the field of legal regulation from around the globe attended the conference to discuss a variety of topical issues surrounding the theme of this years' conference entitled "Legal regulation in a borderless world: Building networks".

The QFC Authority's Chief Legal Officer Nasser Al Taweel and Roscoe Banks, Legal Director at the QFC Authority were accompanied at the conference by Salem Fahad Al-Marri, Acting Director of Lawyers Affairs at the Ministry of Justice. They also hosted and led a round table discussion at the conference entitled: "Setting up a new regulator: Where to start".  Where to start".

Events such as this [ICLR conference] give the QFC the opportunity to stay abreast of recent developments in the global legal regulatory environment, to learn about best practices and to network with other legal regulators from around the world – all of which contribute to further developing the QFC's legal regulatory environment and the wider regulatory regime in Qatar.

The discussion covered various topics including the underlying reasons for new regulation, key principles for sound regulatory design and emulating global best practice in good legal governance. The discussion also touched on the development of the legal regulatory environment in Qatar and other emerging markets.

Commenting on taking part in the conference, Nasser Al Taweel, the QFC Authority's Chief Legal Officer said: "We are delighted to have been given the chance to not only attend, but also lead a discussion at this year's ICLR conference in Singapore. Events such as this give the QFC the opportunity to stay abreast of recent developments in the global legal regulatory environment, to learn about best practices and to network with other legal regulators from around the world – all of which contribute to further developing the QFC's legal regulatory environment and the wider regulatory regime in Qatar."
